Latin American Network of Catholics for the Right to Decide

Red CDD/LA

The Latin American Network of Catholics for the Right to Decide – Red CDD/LA – is an autonomous movement made up of Catholic people in ten countries of Latin America. These people are all committed to seeking social justice and the change of current cultural and religious patterns as well as to promoting women’s rights, especially those linked to sexuality and reproduction. In the last few years, the Network has gone through a continuous development and expansion process, which allowed for the increase in the number of people and groups becoming members. At the same time, the Network’s growth has permitted it to heighten its political visibility in Latin America, where recognition of its work is increasing every day. At present, the Network is made up of ten groups: Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Colombia, Chile, México, and more recently, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Perú, as well. In addition, the group Catholics for the Right to Decide in Ecuador was set up in 2009 and there are spokeswomen in Costa Rica, Guatemala and República Dominicana.

The Regional Coordination (CR) is formed by collegiate members from Mexico, Brasil and Argentina.

Charter of Principles of the Latin American Network of Catholics for the Right to Decide

We are an autonomous movement of Catholic people committed to the search of social justice and the change of cultural and religious patterns currently in force in our societies.

We promote women’s rights, especially those which refer to their sexuality and reproduction.

We fight for equity in gender relations and for women’s citizenship both in society at large and inside churches.

We are currently going through a collective construction process, and we work in a democratic and participatory manner.
